HOW TO IDENTIFY TERMITES
Eastern subterranean termites are the termite species common to our area. Their colonies are made up of three castes – workers, soldiers, and the king and queen. The workers are cream colored and are the ones chewing through your wood. The soldiers are about ¼ inch long and are there to protect the colony from intruders. Queens and kings are black or dark brown, about 3/8 to a half inch long. You may also see swarmers in spring and summer – they are the ones with wings that are creating a new colony. WOOD DESTROYING INSECT REPORTS
A WDIR focuses on the presence of termites, carpenter ants, carpenter bees, and wood-boring beetles as well as any damage they’ve caused. Some lending institutions require a Wood Destroying Insect Report (WDIR) before issuing a mortgage, so it’s highly recommended you have one done for you. It’s also a piece of paper that provides peace of mind when you’re looking to buy a home or building.
